Good Nutrition is Great Medicine - By Gail Kasper

Gail Kasper, Author, Television Host, Certified Fitness Trainer, and Motivational Speaker

You are what you eat, the saying goes. And there’s a world of truth to this statement, because what you eat is processed by your body and converted into something usable. The more junk you consume, the less your body has to work with. But the healthier you eat, the better – with the right types and combinations of food, your body has access to plenty of nutrients to convert into energy, muscle, and all the important biochemical reactions that keep you going strong.

In her book The Everything Guide To Managing And Reversing Pre-Diabetes, Gretchen Scalpi discusses the power of food to reverse pre-diabetes and return to good health. I call this great medicine! Scalpi includes healthy eating as one of seven vital self-care behaviors. According to the author, healthy eating includes healthy choices, the right portion sizes, and optimal times for eating.

What you eat affects you down to the cellular level, and cells are the biological building blocks of your body. If you want your body to work right, then make sure to give it good nutrition. Wholesome food is great medicine, keeping everything that makes up the physical part of you healthy, including your cells, tissues and organs.

In my book Unstoppable: 6 Easy Steps To Achieve Your Goals, one of the characters in my parable used food to her disadvantage, with disastrous consequences. Whenever she was under stress, she turned to food, and her food choices were unwholesome. It was only when she learned to watch and regulate what she ate that she started on a path back to good health.

If you are struggling with a health issue, know that lifestyle changes can help you get your life under control. Making good food choices is a great form of medicine. Since you are what you eat, make sure to eat what’s best for your body. I’m here to help you when you need guidance and motivation to create healthy eating habits. Treat your body right, and it will serve you well.
